over the next week or two i'm gonna post the playlists for the first seven months of bottle rocket - the 'Joseph era' (BR#1-6), and the 'transition month' (BR#7), as i've just decided i shall call them. it's probably just posting for posting's sake, but maybe by bombarding the casual reader with list after list of music, you'll feel compelled to come along to see what lies in store for BR#9! and if not, it's still a nice archive of some happy memories for me to self-indulgently scan once in a while.
so, bottle rocket july 2008: the first one as a duo after Joseph's sterling solo job at the trial night in may (which i missed cos i was in tokyo), and only my third time playing songs to the punters of sleazys. it was nerve-racking but rather fun.

first FM show
so, we're over the hurdle of bottle rocket's first FM broadcast (106.6 donchaknow), and i'm gonna judge it... a success! (in so much as we didn't swear or break anything). the theme was movies (a sequel to the feb 12th show), and though we seemed to wander off topic here and there, at least the tunes remained topical. its up now to listen again on the subcity.org site, as are all the other shows (including the original movie special - don't worry, the plot's pretty easy to pick up so you don't have to listen to em in order or nuffin).
when we weren't gasping at the neverending story remake news or chatting about the Glasgow film festival and the Oscars, here's what we played:
- Toots and the Maytals - 54 46 Was My Number
- The Notwist - Consequence
- Aimee Mann - Wise Up
- Nina Simone - Sinnerman
- Dusty Springfield - Son of a Preacher Man
- Badly Drawn Boy - Something To Talk About
- Yann Tiersen - La Valse D'Amelie
- Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova - Falling Slowly
- Pixies - Hey
- Lou Reed - This Magic Moment
- Isaac Hayes - Theme From Shaft
plus some splendid background music from such silver screen classics as the magnificent seven, the terminator, 633 squadron, e.t., requiem for a dream and escape from new york.
tune in next week for a return to the more traditional bottle rocket radio - new bands, touring bands and such like.

bottle rocking the airwaves
subcity radio begins its FM broadcast this week - huzzah! so now you can hear bottle rocket radio (and Glasgow Uni's other splendid radio shows) on the ol' timer wireless as well as on the interweb. we're thursday afternoon, 2-3pm, but don't worry if you're busy or live in foreign lands, cos the show's will continue to be archived and made available for re-listening across here. if you're a weegie with a radio though, then 106.6fm is your tuning destination - get on it, quick, quick!
this week, we'll have our second themed show, and in a somewhat unimaginative move, it's, er, the same theme as last time. that's right, it's movie special 2: son of movie special, where we'll play all the songs we didn't have time for a fortnight ago, and do a bit of chinwagging about the oscars, the glasgow film festival and probably a wee bit of unrelated gushing about saturday.

i got chills they're multiplying
so its bottle rocket #8 tonight and i've got that nervous/excited feeling where i just can't wait to get started. we're gonna pack up our bag of choons, head along to sauchiehall street and swig some red stripe (note: if you too enjoy jamaica lager beer but sleazys run out, don't, DON'T buy deuchers. £4.50 a bottle! crivens!). and then, if all goes to plan, we'll play some cracking music for three and a half energetic hours.
we like: indie-pop, c86, motown, northern soul, rock n roll, shoegaze, electro, twee etc etc etc. do you? you do? why, we should really become better acquainted in that case.
let's meet at 11:30pm, at nice n sleazys for white russians and perhaps a wee dance. we'll be the ones with headphones and our finest dancing shoes. you'll be the ones smiling (we hope).
so, let's recap:

NICE N SLEAZYS!
11:30PM - 3:00AM!
