penutimate radio...

we realised shortly before going on air today that next week will have to be our final show (the station keeps broadcasting for another week after that, cept we'll be at all tomorrow's parties...). so, obviously, we made this one EVEN BETTER than usual, no mean feat considering the high standard we've stuck to week in, week out since beginning way back in october. next week it's THE ALL TIME BEST OF BOTTLE ROCKET IN THE WORLD EVER!! basically we're gonna look over the clubnight's playlists and make a list of our most played bands, then play a song by as many of em as we can fit in. so, in the final installment of our regular setup (which would usually follow the format: new stuff; atp; the vault; gigs; whatever's left), this is what we played:

- the specials - a message to you rudy
- camera obscura - french navy
- the late cretaceous - if harold and maude were dinosaurs
- bill wells and maher shalal hash baz - time takes me so back
- melt banana - shield for your eyes, a beast in the well on your hand
- styrofoam - a thousand words
- the acorn - hold your breath
- the charlatans - can't get out of bed
- the fall - rowche rumble
- sucioperro - liquids
- jesus h foxx - trying to be good
- hockey - too fake
- lloyd cole and the commotions - are you ready to be heartbroken?

like the look of that? then click here and fill your ears with it.

more beats and choons

alrighty,

the radio show's back tomorrow (huzzah!) and right now i'm thinking that the hour will feature music from bands who i saw live this week and who were AMAZING (take a bow camera obscura and the specials), some more bands making me excited for all tomorrow's parties (styrofoam and !!! maybe?), some bands playing Hinterland (jesus h. foxx and sucioperro?) and some other tour-ers (lloyd cole and found could work i guess...). it's all a bit sketchy, but so what? get off our case, you aint the boss of us.

two days ago

was bottle rocket.

cheers to anyone who came down and danced with us on saturday, twas very good fun. and an especially hearty thank you to duncan and susan for playing lovely music - meowmix folks sure know their stuff....

which is good news for me and mike, since we'll be leaving the club in their more than capable hands next month while we wander southwards to enjoy all tomorrows parties. so if you liked this month's bottle rocket, then you'll love next month! just replace me and mike with jens, and i'm sure you'll agree its a whole lotta win.

solo radio

events conspired to leave me alone for yesterday's show - the last time i did a show on my own without any kind of preparation the tapes had to be deleted...

luckily, things went a little better this time round. you can listen to it here if you like. these are the songs that were played to stop me from talking too much...

- god help the girl - come monday night
- dent may and his magnificent ukulele - you can't force a dance party
- brontosaurus chorus - love is the path to self destruction
- the late cretaceous - carnivores and herbivores can get along
- jens lekman & tracey thorn - yeah! oh, yeah!
- the breeders - fate to fatal
- css - let's make love and listen to death from above
- conor oberst & the mystic valley band - nikorette
- cake - comfort eagle
- ...and you will know us by the trail of dead - isis unveiled
- the hollies - just one look
- health - crimewave
- the zombies - time of the season
- anamanaguchi - so bored (wavves cover)
- modest mouse - float on
- dusty springfield - i only want to be with you
- shout out out out out - how do i maintain pt. 2

so, loads more songs than yer average bottle rocket radio show (it's almost like i didn't have much to talk about between times, isn't it?). yet i still managed to forget to play bill wells and maher shalal hash baz. maybe next time, eh?

bottle rocket's fact of the day:

did you know that the club night is tomorrow night? it bloody is you know! 11:30 - 3:00am, nice n sleazys.

- ...and you will know us by the trail of dead
- the zombies
- conor oberst
- bill wells and the maher shalal hash baz
- anamanaguchi
- the breeders

amongst other ear-treats.

clevah girl...

as promised this week's radio was a lot less when you were miney...

instead, oddly, we decided to structure the show around dino-techno - that is, the surprising number of dance remixes of the jurassic park theme tune. and they were all - now, this may surprise you - absolute bobbins. but they made us chuckle, so that's alright.

inbetween basshunter-arranged lizardy raving, we played:

- dananananaykroyd - watch this
- jeremy warmsley - 5 verses
- miles anthony benjamin robinson - buriedfed
- yeah yeah yeahs - zero
- grizzly bear - cheerleader
- fuck buttons - bright tomorrow
- the buggles - technopop
- chris difford - pulling mussels (from a shell)
- fujiya & miyagi - knickerbocker
- polly scattergood - other too endless
- triple school - reader
- the shirelles - will you still love me tomorrow?
- ultravox - vienna

and you can have an ear-gander here.

you were kinda sorta my best friend...

today bottle rocket radio indulged (over-indulged some might say) in When You Were Mine, cos its a ruddy wonderful song no matter who sings it. so, after playing dent may's cover last week, we spun versions by cyndi lauper and casiotone for the painfully alone this time. excessive? perhaps. but its not like we spent our time making our own version or nothing, i mean, ahem, what kind of idiots would, er, do that... sigh.

this is the music that got us from point a (2pm) to point b (3pm) on the 2nd of april in the year of our lord 2009:

- cyndi lauper - when you were mine
- pelle carlberg - 51
- rose elinor dougall - start/stop/synchro
- manic street preachers - your love alone is not enough
- bonnie prince billy - i came here to hear the music
- les savy fav - scotchguard the creditcard
- bon jovi - these days
- thomas truax - twin peaks (falling)
- johnny foreigner - ghost the festivals
- remember remember - the dancing
- danananaykroyd - pink sabbath
- y'all is fantasy island - wreck on the highway
- casiotone for the painfully alone - when you were mine

next week's show will absolutely, definately, 100% be less when-you-were-mine-y.
